PUBLIC  HEARING – INDUSTRIAL AUTHORITY MILLAGE FOR 2008

The Seminole County Industrial Authority has requested the County Commission levy a ¼ mill property tax for the purpose of purchasing property and developing infrastructure for a new Industrial Park.

Chairman Rogers reminded those in attendance that this is not a new tax being levied on the taxpayers of Seminole County. In recent years the County has funded the Industrial Authority through the General Budget by way of a line item equal to approximately ¼ mil of that year’s ad valorem tax. However, this year the Commission chose to list the Industrial Authority on a separate line item on the tax bill in order for the public to better understand what they are funding.

Chairman Rogers opened the floor for questions and comments from the public. With no comments or questions, Chairman Rogers closed the hearing.

After closing of the hearing, a citizen came into the courtroom and Chairman Rogers once again gave an overview of the purpose of the two public hearings.

Announcements:  Chairman Rogers reported that we had received a resolution and letter from Mr. Lee O’Brien, Deputy Director of Legal Services for the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The resolution authorizes the transfer of the property in Donalsonville formerly used as Post 14 barracks. The resolution states that the “GSP will retain the radio tower and radio equipment building for storage, power and telephone lines for use as a radio transmitter site by DPS and GSP and more specifically to retain such ingress-egress easement for maintenance, management and operation of the tower and guy wires including such interest that will allow the tower to be increased in height and allow for additional users on the tower in the sole discretion of DPS”.

Rogers concluded by stating that the last step in the property transfer process is to receive the deed to the property. Once the County receives the deed, the EMS department will begin occupying the building.
