BUDGET WORK SESSION FY-10

The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held a FY-10 Budget Work Session on Monday, May 4, 2009 in the Courthouse Law Library located on the first floor of the Seminole County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman Tommy Rogers, Vice-Chairman Alton Harrison, Commissioner Dell Shingler, Commissioner Brenda Peterson, County Manager Marty Shingler and Clerk Donna Jones. Commission Scott Miller was absent.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tommy Rogers.
Commissioner Brenda Peterson gave the invocation.
Commissioner Alton Harrison made the motion to approve the change of dates for the “Keep Georgia Beautiful” campaign to Saturday May 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Commissioner Dell Shingler provided the second. Motion passed.
The Commission reviewed notes on the FY-10 budget work papers and cut several line items to have no increase over the FY-09 budget.
The main general fund departments that were reduced included the Sheriff’s Office and the EMS Department. Also cut was the estimated fuel cost for FY-10. Separate line items which were reduced included payroll; uniforms; capital outlay; vehicle repairs; and travel and education.
Once the work papers have been change to reflect line items that have been reduced, the Commission will once again meet and review to search for additional budget cuts.
Commissioner Dell Shingler made the motion to approve the Chairman signing the resolution to support the “Advanced Broadband Infrastructure Deployment”. Commissioner Alton Harrison provided the second.
This program is designed to include twenty-one (21) counties in Southwest Georgia to provide broadband services for EMS; Law Enforcement; hospitals; and other medical services providers. This broadband service will allow these service providers to communicate anywhere in the twenty-one (21) county area.
This resolution of support is at no cost to the County.
The next budget work session is scheduled for Monday, May 11th at 5:00 p.m. in the Law Library.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned on a motion made by Commissioner Brenda Peterson, seconded by Commissioner Alton Harrison with Commissioner Dell Shingler, and Chairman Tommy Rogers voting yes.
