PUBLIC HEARING FOR FY-11 BUDGET

SEMINOLE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, SUPERIOR COURTROOM

Copies of the proposed FY-11 budget were made available to the public for review and comment.

Chairman Rogers opened the floor for questions from the public. No questions or comments came from the public, therefore, Chairman Rogers closed the hearing.

 

 

MINUTES

REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

SEMINOLE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, SUPERIOR COURTROOM

TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2010

6:00 P.M.

 

The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held their regularly scheduled monthly commission meeting on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in the Superior Courtroom located on the second floor of the Seminole County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman Tommy Rogers, Vice-Chairman Alton Harrison, Commissioner Dell Shingler, Commission Scott Miller and Clerk Donna Jones.  Commissioner Brenda Peterson, was absent.

 

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tommy Rogers.

 

The invocation was offered by Commissioner Alton Harrison.

 

Minutes from the following meetings were approved on a motion by Commissioner Dell Shingler and seconded by Commissioner Alton Harrison. Motion approved.

            Regular Monthly Meeting from April 13, 2010

            Budget Work Session from April 14, 2010

            Budget Work Session from April 28, 2010

            Budget Work Session from May 4, 2020

 

The financial statement for the month of March was approved on a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison and seconded by Commissioner Scott Miller. Motion passed.

 

New Business:

 

On a motion by Commissioner Scott Miller and seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler, the employee policy manual was amended to include the requirement of wearing seatbelts for operators and passengers of all county owned equipment. Motion passed.

 

On a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison and seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler, Chairman Rogers was given permission to sign the engagement letter for the CPA firm of Burke, Worsham and Harrell to perform the audit for fiscal year 2010.

The contract fee for the audit services remain the same as the prior year.

 

Mr. Royce Davis with the Georgia Forestry Commission presented the completed application for the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Firewise Grant. Mr. Davis reported that the core committee consisted of  fire chiefs Travis Brooks, Lance Robinson, and Bruce Temples as well as former County Manager Marty Shingler, County Commission Chairman Tommy Rogers, Chief Ranger Grady Jarvis, and himself Royce Davis. The purpose of the grant is to acquire funds for equipment, training, etc.

Mr. Davis was accompanied by the Forestry Commissionís CWPP program specialist, Jim Harrell.

Davis continued that the plan contains information on the high risk areas, which are mostly around the Lake area. Some objectives of the plan are to improve public safety, reduce structure loss and wildfires. Seminole County is the third county in our area to have completed the grant application.

 

The action plan listed numerous locations for implementation.

Commissioner Scott Miller made the motion to have Chairman Rogers sign the grant application as the representative of the full commission. Commissioner Dell Shingler provided the second, motion passed.

The completed application document is available for public review in the County Commissionerís office.

 

On a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison and seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler, the commission entered into Executive Session. Motion passed.

 

On a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison and seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler the commission re-entered the general session. Motion passed.

 

Adjournment:

 

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned on a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison, seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler with Chairman Tommy Rogers voting yes.
