The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held their regular monthly meeting, on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Due to ongoing renovations in the Superior Courtroom, the meeting was held in the Probate Judge’s Courtroom located on the first floor of the Seminole County Courthouse. Those present were, Chairman Tommy Rogers, Vice-Chairman Alton Harrison, Commissioner Dell Shingler, Commissioner Scott Miller, Commissioner Brenda Peterson, County Manager/Clerk Donna Jones, and several interested citizens.


The regular monthly meeting was called to order by Chairman Tommy Rogers.


The invocation was offered by Commissioner Dell Shingler.


Minutes from the Called Meeting held on May 18, 2010 were approved on a motion by Commissioner Dell Shingler, seconded by Commissioner Alton Harrison. Motion passed.


The April 2010 Financial Statement was approved on a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison, and seconded by Commissioner Brenda Peterson. Motion passed.


Committee Reports:


Commissioner Dell Shingler gave a brief report on her productive day on Thursday, June 3rd with the UGA students who will be working on the “Riverway Project”.  The group was escorted around the area to talk with residents and business owners to get their input as to what they would like to have accomplished with the project.


New Business:


A copy of the 2010 LARP, road resurfacing priority list was distributed among the Commissioners. Each Commissioner was tasked to review the list and bring their recommendations for 2011 to the July meeting.  The GDOT will possibly let one more re-surfacing project for this fiscal year. The condition of the road as well as traffic count are both to be considered in the choice.

The Road Department Superintendent, Bobby Aiken, will review the list and have his input for selection available by the next meeting.


On a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison and seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler, purchases up to $500 will be allowed through the County Administrator or Commissioner’s staff.  Motion passed.

This policy will allow for repairs and replacement of equipment to be made more promptly.


A price list of seven (7) used pneumatic tired compactor’s was submitted for review. The list was submitted by Caterpillar dealer, Yancey Bros., for some trade-in equipment they have received in Atlanta. The model years vary from 1998 to 2005 and the prices range from $27,000 to $46,800.

On a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison and seconded by Commissioner Brenda Peterson, Road Department Superintendent Bobby Aiken, was given a “not to exceed” budget amount of $38,300 for the purchase of the compactor that he feels will best suit the County’s needs. Aiken will travel to Atlanta to personally inspect each piece of equipment.


On a motion by Commissioner Dell Shingler with second by Commissioner Brenda Peterson, the Commission entered into Executive Session.


On a motion by Commissioner Scott Miller with second by Commissioner Alton Harrison the Commission re-entered the Regular Session.







After each Commissioner had reviewed their upcoming schedules, the quarterly lunch meeting with Constitutional Officers and Department Heads was re-scheduled for noon on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in the Law Library.






With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned on a motion made by Commissioner Scott Miller, seconded by Commissioner Alton Harrison with Commissioners Dell Shingler, Brenda Peterson and Chairman Tommy Rogers voting yes.
