REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING

SEMINOLE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, MAIN FLOOR PROBATE JUDGE’S COURTROOM

TUESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2010

6:00 P.M.

 

 

 

The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held their regular monthly meeting, on Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Due to ongoing renovations in the Superior Courtroom, the meeting was held in the Middle/High School Cafeteria. Those present were, Chairman Tommy Rogers, Vice-Chairman Alton Harrison, Commissioner Dell Shingler, Commissioner Brenda Peterson, County Manager/Clerk Donna Jones, and several interested citizens. Commissioner Scott Miller was absent.

 

The regular monthly meeting was called to order by Chairman Tommy Rogers.

 

The invocation was offered by Commissioner Alton Harrison.

 

Minutes from the Regular Monthly Meeting held on July13, 2010 were approved on a motion by Commissioner Brenda Peterson, seconded by Commissioner Dell Shingler. Motion passed.

 

The June 2010 Financial Statement was approved on a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison, and seconded by Commissioner Brenda Peterson. Motion passed.

 

Old Business:

 

Three bids have been received for the purchase of a medium sized hauling trailer for the road department.

On a motion by Commissioner Alton Harrison with second by Commissioner Dell Shingler the decision was made to purchase the Eager Beaver trailer from Flint Equipment.  Motion passed.

This trailer was chosen due to its low profile. This piece of equipment is to be purchased from the proceeds of surplus equipment that was sold on GovDeals.

Flint Equipment ----------------------      $15,850 New 2010 Eager Beaver 20 Ton, 102” wide

Yancey Bros --------------------------      $15,463, Trail King (Never used but has sat on the lot for 4 years) 96” wide, full warranty 

 

New Business:

 

On a motion by Commissioner Dell Shingler and seconded by Commissioner Brenda Peterson, Chairman Rogers was given approval to sign the resolution that will adopt the required IRS changes to the employees retirement Defined Benefit Plan sponsored by GEBCorp. Motion passed.

 

After reviewing the list of bonded commercial chemical applicator license holders in Seminole County, Commissioner Alton Harrison made the motion to approve contracting with Mr. Mark Atwater of Weed Control Unlimited.

This one time service will be to apply a woody growth deterrent around some twenty (20) bridges and culverts in Seminole County. This service has been requested by the GDOT  to give them access to perform their annual inspection. The application should not need to be repeated for two years. The cost of the application is $150 per structure with the total price not to exceed $3,300.   The second to Harrison’s motion was made by Commissioner Brenda Peterson. Motion passed.

 

 

 

 

Commissioner Brenda Peterson supplied the motion to authorize the Chairman to sign the resolution to finance through Wachovia (ACCG) two (2)  2010 Ford Explorers for the Sheriff’s Office. These vehicles will be funded through the Sheriff’s Office division of SPLOST IV.  The second to the motion was made by Commissioner Dell Shingler. Motion passed.

 

Lastly on the agenda the Commission reviewed bid specs for a three (3) piece group purchase of equipment to include a Motor Grader, Wheeled Excavator and Backhoe Loader for the Road Department.  Commissioner Dell Shingler made the motion to put the equipment up for bid. Commissioner Brenda Peterson seconded the motion. Motion passed.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned on a motion made by Commissioner Alton Harrison, seconded by Commissioner Brenda Peterson with Commissioners Dell Shingler, and Chairman Tommy Rogers voting yes.
