MINUTES

CALLED MEETING

SEMINOLE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, SECOND FLOOR, SUPERIOR COURTROOM

THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2011

5:00 P.M.

The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held a called meeting on Thursday, May 12, 2011 in the Superior Courtroom located on the second floor of the courthouse. Those present were, Chairman Tommy Rogers, Vice-Chairman Dell Shingler, Commissioner Brenda Peterson, Commissioner Roger Lane, and County Manager/Clerk Donna Jones. Commissioner Scott Miller was absent.

The Called meeting was called to order by Chairman Tommy Rogers.

The invocation was offered by Commissioner Dell Shingler.

Old Business:

EMS Director, Toby Roland, presented his follow-up from the Tuesday night regular monthly meeting. Department heads were asked to survey their employees to see if they would prefer a 3% cost of living adjustment to begin the first payroll of June or receive a bonus during the Christmas season if funds were available. Roland reported that he had polled his employees and, if given the choice, they would prefer a 3% raise in their bi-weekly paychecks beginning the first payday in June rather than opting for a 3% bonus during the Christmas Holiday season.

There was discussion as to options of budgeting for a 2% COLA for all county employees beginning June 1st with the possibility of a 2% bonus during the Holiday season if the funds are available or reviewing all personnel and giving merit increases where applicable.

No decisions were made and the issue will continue in discussion and settled before the millage rate is set later in the summer.

New Business:

County Manager, Donna Jones, reported that the Board of Registrars has asked that our courthouse clerical floater employee, Lori North, take the part-time position of Chief Deputy Registrar. The current employee in this position would like to be relieved of this responsibility effective June 1, 2011 and remain in her full-time position as Probate Clerk.

While there are no elections for the remainder of 2011, there are five (5) elections scheduled for 2012.

Placing Ms. North in this position effective June 1st would give her adequate time to gain experience and become familiar with the demands of the job. The members of the Board have stated that they would help her during elections when the work load was the heaviest.

None of the Commissioners objected to this position being added to Ms. North’s current duties.

Announcements:

We have received the approval from the State for the 2011 Off-System Safety Action Plan. This year 39.29 miles of road were approved for striping, raised pavement markers, and placement of warning signs. A list of the approved roads may be obtained at the County Commissioners Office, 200 S. Knox Ave., Donalsonville, GA 39845.

Adjournment:

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned on a motion made by Commissioner Roger Lane, seconded by Commissioner Brenda Peterson with Commissioner Dell Shingler, and Chairman Tommy Rogers voting yes.
