SEMINOLE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

CALLED MEETING

SEMINOLE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, LAW LIBRARY

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 26TH, 2012

12:00 P.M.

 

The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held a Called Meeting on Monday, November 26th, 2012 in the Law Library.  Those present were Chairman Dell Shingler, Vice Chairman Roger Lane, Commissioner Brenda Peterson, Commissioner Darius Culverson, Commissioner Scott Miller and County Manager/Clerk Paula Granger.  The purpose of the meeting was to select the FY13 LMIG project and approve the Trails Grant Application and Resolution.

 

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Shingler.

 

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the invocation was given by Commissioner Culverson.

 

Old Business:

 

County Manager Granger stated double chip seal would not be permissible except for an existing paved road and crush and run is not permissible for dirt roads with LMIG funds.  Vice Chairman Lane requested Road Superintendent Bobby Aiken provide his opinion on what roads were in the greatest need.  Mr. Aiken stated Clem Copeland Road and Phil Spooner Road would be his choice.  Commissioner Miller stated Clem Copeland Road was on the list back in the 80ís; however, Arrowhead Estates was paved instead.  Commissioner Miller also stated his concerns with school bus traffic, mail delivery, and EMS traffic on this road during rainfall.  Clem Copeland Road was recommended by Commissioner Miller.  Vice Chairman Lane made a motion to pave Clem Copeland Road with LMIG funds and use Stacy Watkins to complete the engineering work, a second was provided by Commissioner Miller.  All in favor, motion passed.

 

Chairman Shingler requested we get bids for resurfacing Phil Spooner Road, Saddle Club Road, and Ash Crossing Road while we take bids for paving Clem Copeland Road.  We will also have Stacy Watkins look at Saddle Club Road as a possible CDBG project or possibly the training school auditorium if no road work can be found.

 

Commissioner Culverson commented several roads in his district are in need of repairs. A motion was made by Commissioner Culverson to repair Parkside Circle and Spring Creek Drive with crush and run and replace some culverts using SPLOST funds.  Road Department Superintendent Bobby Aiken stated an approximate cost of $100,000.  A second was provided by Vice Chairman Lane.  All in favor, motion passed. 

 

New Business:

 

County Manager Granger requested approval to submit a Walking Trail Grant Application for Spring Creek Park and adopt the Walking Trail Grant Resolution.  A motion was made by Commissioner Miller and a second was provided by Commissioner Culverson.  All in favor, motion passed.

 

Adjournment:

 

With there being no further business, Commissioner Miller made a motion to adjourn, Vice Chairman Lane provided the second.  All in favor, motion passed.
