SEMINOLE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

PUBLIC HEARING

SEMINOLE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, FOYER, 1ST FLOOR

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27TH, 2015

6:00 P.M.

The Seminole County Board of Commissioners held a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 27th, 2015 in the Foyer of the Courthouse.  Those present were Chairman Chuck Orrick, Vice Chairman Brenda Peterson, Commissioner Shelia Williams, and Commissioner Roger Lane.  County Manager/Clerk Paula Granger and Commissioner Culverson were absent. Mr. Steve O’Neil from the Regional Commission was the speaker.

The purpose of the Public Hearing was to discuss updates for the Comprehensive Plan.

Chairman Orrick called the meeting to order.

The invocation was given by Commissioner Williams followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call was conducted and a quorum was present.

Chairman Orrick turned the Public Hearing over to Mr. O’Neil who described the Comprehensive Plan as an overall guiding document for the County that sets out goals and policies.  The Plan must be updated every 10 years and is required by the Department of Community Affairs in order to maintain the “qualified” local government status that directly impacts eligibility for grants, loans, and permits.  The Regional Commission provides updates to the Plan at no cost to the County unless additional elements are added other than the required elements.  The local steering committee members are:  Paula Granger, Brenda Peterson, Lindsey Register, Darrell Hampton, Dan Ponder, Mitch Blanks, and Ronnie Ingram.

Mr. O’Neil stated the required elements are as follows: Needs & Opportunities, Goals & Policies, Land Use, Zoning, Future Development Map, Economic Development, Transportation, and Community Work Program.  Future meetings will be scheduled in January and February, 2016 to develop our needs and opportunities, goals, and policies.  Meeting schedules will be posted on the Plan website, www.swgrcplanning.org.  Mr. O’Neil suggested several means of communicating to the public including advertisements in the local paper, email, and providing a link to the Plan website on the County webpage.  This will provide the public an opportunity to comment or email their concerns to the Regional Commission.  A survey will also be on the Plan website.

Chairman Orrick thanked everyone for attending the meeting and commented on the meeting location.  Due to several conflicts with the Superior Courtroom, Grand Jury Room, and Law Library, the meeting was held in the foyer.  Chairman Orrick also thanked Commissioner Lane for his assistance in trying to remedy the meeting location issue.

               There were no public comments.

Commissioner Lane made a motion to adjourn followed by a second from Vice Chairman Peterson.  All in favor, motion passed.
